Meet UP Oystercatcher
Meet Dark Green UP! That’s what we have to call this oystercatcher until we find a real name for him. UP was originally captured as an adult bird in the spring of 2010 on South Core Banks, where he returned to breed again in 2011, 2012, and 2013. Then as now he was paired with Dark Green UR. In 2012, they successfully fledged on chick, which was banded Dark Green CFF. We don’t know where UP wintered in the past two years, but it might have been South Carolina, as he was seen at Trenchard’s Inlet in 2010. Meanwhile, his mate UR was sighted wintering in Cedar Key, Florida. We don’t have any sightings yet from CFF, so for now no one knows if their chick followed one parent or the other, or if it struck off on its own. Hopefully, UP, UR, and CFF will all be spotted this winter.
